CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN BRNO
Hundreds of stalls selling a rich variety of refreshments and gifts, a fresh cultural programme served live daily, meetups with family and friends, with a local, authentic, and enchanting Christmas atmosphere – these are Brno’s Christmas markets, taking place on four squares, one courtyard, and along one promenade.
What can you expect to experience in the seasonal run-up to Christmas in Brno? There’s the dynamic náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square), graced by the nation’s oldest Christmas tree, the peaceful Dominikánské náměstí (Dominican Square) with its populous Nativity Scene, the park on Moravské náměstí (Moravian Square), hosting the city’s festive Ferris wheel and ice rink, and there are the handicraft stalls snuggling up on romantic Vegetable Market. Elsewhere, you can satisfy the inner gourmet at the cozy courtyard of the Old Town Hall and walk entranced along the light trail on Bašty street. All this and much more awaits!
Characteristic for Brno Christmas markets is the delivery of tradition with a modern twist, a combination perfectly symbolized perhaps by the city’s historical icon, the Brno Dragon, being dressed in an illuminated jumper, created using the environmentally friendly method of upcycling. This stylishly unconventional approach to Christmas – and doubtless also the quality of the Christmas markets and goodies on sale – explains why the city was awarded the title European Capital of Christmas 2024.
So off to Brno we go, let’s greet the Infant Jesus!
You can enjoy the Christmas market atmosphere of Brno city centre thanks to the seamless cooperation of the event’s two organisers: Brněnské Vánoce and Vánoce Brno.
