Avion Hotel

AVION is a newly renovated designer hotel in the very heart of Brno. It is situated in the city’s historic centre on Česká Street.

It offers comfortable accommodation in 37 rooms (77 beds) in a range of categories. Thirty-seven was the number of guest rooms that Bohuslav Fuchs originally designed for the building, and the number has been preserved in the hotel’s reincarnated form, along with a hotel restaurant and café, museum, and viewing terrace.

It is one of the narrowest hotels in Europe, erected according to blueprints by the Czech architect Bohuslav Fuchs. The hotel was designed in the years 1926–1927, built in 1928, and furnished the following year in 1929. This ten-storey terraced building, occupying a narrow but deeply set plot (8 x 34 m), is 40 metres high, which today grants guests, visitors, and employees fascinating views of Špilberk Castle, the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul on Petrov Hill, and – from the terrace on the topmost floor – the entire city of Brno. The hotel is an exceptional building and a national cultural monument.

Together with Brno’s Villa Tugendhat, Hotel Avion is one of the jewels of functionalist architecture.

All over the world – at faculties of architecture from New York to Tokyo – Avion is taught as an outstanding monument of the global functionalist movement.
