Arnold Villa Exhibition: Legacy of the Past in the Passage of Time Genius Loci, Josef Arnold and his Home, Jews in Brno
Built over the course of several months in 1862, this is the second oldest villa in one of the oldest villa colonies in Central Europe.
It was built for the personal use of Josef Arnold, a leading figure in Brno’s construction industry during the latter half of the 19th century. You can still see his buildings dotted around the city today.
The villa was also home to the aunt of Greta Tugendhat, Cecilie Hože, who with her husband Cornelius considerably reshaped the layout and transformed the interiors of the Arnold Villa in the Art Nouveau style, with elements of Art Deco.
After World War Two the house was used as a nursery school. Today, following thorough renovation, it has been reopened to the public and in 2024 it serves as the Centre for Dialogue, hosting many different cultural events.
