While the solo violin in Thomas Adès’s Air is filled with light and reaches toward celestial heights, the cello in Benjamin Britten’s symphony resonates with a darker tone. Amongst it all, Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 84 keeps the world in balance.
Chief Conductor Dennis Russell Davies – one of only four conductors in the world to have recorded and released the complete cycle of 107 Haydn symphonies – has, in connection with the approaching major Haydn anniversary, set himself the goal of gradually performing and recording the entire cycle of the Paris symphonies with ‘his’ Filharmonie Brno. After symphonies 83, 86 and 87, we can look forward in the coming season to Symphony No. 84 in E-flat major.
A discussion with the artistic director and his guests will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the director’s lounge. Seating is limited; please reserve your spot at besedy@filharmonie-brno.cz by 12:00 p.m. on the Wednesday of the week the concert takes place.
