STRINGS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Filharmonie Brno
conductor Patrik Červák
moderated by Kristýna Drášilová and Vítězslav Mikeš
written and directed by Kristýna Drášilová
We already know the orchestra—we know how powerful it can sound, and also why it needs a conductor to keep it together. But what actually lies within? What instruments make up its colorful world, who calls the shots, and who, on the other hand, patiently waits for their big moment? And can a musician in the orchestra just sit wherever they please?
And this year, you don’t have to stay just as listeners! We invite you to join forces with our orchestra: young listeners can prepare together with their teachers, and adults can dust off their instruments. Let’s experience that unique feeling together—being part of an orchestra.

Strings in the spotlight
Softness, melodiousness, and captivating energy—string instruments are undoubtedly the cornerstone of every symphony orchestra. We’ll explore the entire string family and discover why an orchestra would sound completely different without them. What’s the difference between first and second violins? Why are violists the most frequent target of musical jokes—and is it even justified? What can the cello express? And how do double bassists travel?
A concert full of interesting facts, insight, and beautiful music awaits you—with the scent of rosin and sweet tones that will transport you right into the heart of the orchestra.
All audience members who are learning or have learned to play any string instrument are invited to play along with the orchestra.
