Richard Wagner composed the Siegfried Idyll for his wife, Cosima. It was a reflection on the time when their son Siegfried was born and when he was working on the final scene of the eponymous opera.

The legendary German tenor Christoph Prégardien returns to the Besední dům with a selection from Gustav Mahler’s song cycle Des Knaben Wunderhorn, inspired by the eponymous collection of folk poetry compiled in the early nineteenth century.

For many years, the Filharmonie Brno has promoted the rediscovery of Antoine Reicha as a visionary composer. His Overture in D major, written in 5/8 time, bears witness to bold innovations – particularly rhythmic and harmonic – which were far ahead of their time.

After the ballets The Firebird, Petrushka and The Rite of Spring, which had been composed for Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in Paris, Igor Stravinsky embraced the opportunity to create a work inspired by the music of G. B. Pergolesi and the comic character Pulcinella. He later adapted the ballet score into a suite for chamber orchestra featuring numerous solo parts.
