This programme presents the piano music of Tristan Murail, one of the key figures of spectral composition. In Murail’s pieces, the piano is not merely an instrument but an object of investigation – the music is not only for the piano, but in a certain sense also about the piano. The focus turns to resonances and the hidden processes unfolding within sound itself, as they become the fundamental building blocks of musical form. Murail’s music serves as a point of departure for new compositions by Marek Keprt, the soloist of the evening. Keprt works with the motivic and sonic material of the pieces featured, creating fluid transitions between them. The electronic layer of these intermezzi expands on the acoustic possibilities of the piano and highlights one of the central aspects of Murail’s approach: the understanding of sound as a process of continual transformation. Dovetailing this are a work by Daniel Oliver Moser, a student of Murail’s, and the premiere of a new piece by Dan Dlouhý, which develops particular spectral principles through contemporary algorithmic and computer‑assisted compositional techniques.
